Fun For Spring!

Yes, it's cold; yes, it's only the end of February.  But if you're like me, visions of blooms and blossoms are already dancing in your mind's eye.  If you're also like me, attending a few popular spring cultural events (anything to do with Cherry Blossoms) will definitely be on your to-do list.

The event I enjoy the most is the "Sakura Days Japan Fair" held at the VanDusen Botanical Garden; showcasing Japanese culture, food, products, crafts and businesses from all around the Lower Mainland.  This year, it will be held on April 18th and 19th from 10 am to 5 pm.

There are also other events around Vancouver related to this wonderful time of spring:

Cherry Jam Concert at the Burrard Skytrain station indoor concourse - where there will be a noon hour concert where local talent will be showing off their performances as well as a reading of the winning 2019 Haiku International poems.

At Queen Elizabeth Park, The Big Picnic which will be held on April 11th from 12 - 4 pm is inspired by the long-time Japanese cultural tradition of hanami.  Literally translated - it means "cherry blossom (hana) viewing (mi)".  Some of Vancouver's best food trucks will be there - or you can bring your own picnic if you want to fully experience a home packed bento picnic.  Come with a blanket, family and/or friends and experience the free entertainment and activities.  If you're not interested in bringing your own food - give the different foods and drinks provided on site a try.

On April 23rd from 6-9 pm at Stanley Park Pavillion - experience Sakura Night!  8 of Vancouver's top chefs at this not-to-be missed food highlight of Asian-fusion cuisine is a fun-filled gourmet evening of conversation, canapés and cocktails.  Definitely not an event for the little ones - get your babysitter or child-minder lined up in plenty of time so as not to miss out on this fun event.  No dishes, no cooking - just fun and relaxation.

Sometimes, there are early bird draws or discounts when you register or pay your admission fee online early.  If you'd like to have a really in-depth experience - you can even try and see if you can volunteer at one of these events.  Not only do you get to experience everything as an insider, sometimes there are even perks to being a volunteer.  Free admission, free meal, first to check the tables out before the crowds pour in, the benefits are endless.  And if you are interested, it might even be a great chance to network or even to make new friends.

I hope you have fun!  I plan to! ;)

Watch out for my next post!
