Response Times and Local Businesses in the Wake of COVID-19

Watching the news updates everyday and checking the live updates on my phone, it's frustrating to see Canada's somewhat delayed responses to the pandemic as opposed to what other Asian countries like Taiwan and South Korea have done or been able to do on the turn of a dime.

It's even more disheartening and frightening to see the lackadaisical attitudes younger and middle aged people have towards this pandemic that is killing so many thousands of people and spreading at an alarming rate. Really, Florida?? You do realize that this virus severely weakens your immune system? You might have been really healthy prior to infection but some of us unluckier ones will progressively get sicker and sicker as this young man who is covered by the Los Angeles Times is personally experiencing.  The idiom, "dead wrong" in this instance couldn't be more appropriate - do you really want to be one of the few who are literally dead and wrong about COVID-19?

Conversations I overhear on the bus or the streets of Vancouver:
"It's just the common cold; thousands of people catch the common cold everyday!  What's the big deal?!"
"Yo!  Want some Corona?  Want some 'Corona' to get your day going? Get it? 'Corona'?"

It's also disconcerting to see and hear of establishments flaunting, or not keeping up to date with government orders to shut down dine in and to only offer delivery and take-out.  Do they not understand the severity of the the word "pandemic"???

On the flip side of the coin, it's been heartening to see certain owners responding almost instantly to the situation and in some cases reaching out via social media to their customers.

To commend them, I'm going to list them by name in the hopes of getting people to please, please, please, support them.
